No previous experience is required. Students will use library books, school Macbooks and online research tools to develop futuristic, but realistic spaces. Minecraft club meets in J110. Students may bring a nut-free snack if desired.

Auditions for the Fall Play, Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon, will take place September 9-13 and is open to all MS students.  Rehearsals after school will be Monday-Thursday for most parts with performances scheduled for November 7, 8, and 9. There will be many opportunities for students to act, or be part of the behind the scenes crew.

Art Connects is an Art Club open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and is limited to 25 students. They meet Monday and  Wednesday after school from 3:15 to 4:30 in the Art room. Students will experience several different Art concepts and mediums creating individual projects as well as creating permanent works of Art around our school.  Students will create projects that can take one afternoon or projects that will be created over several afternoons together. Students have an opportunity to build their art skills, discover new ways to think about Art and experience how Art impacts their lives and the world around them.

FCCLA: Family, Career and Community Leaders of America

FCCLA is a student leadership organization connected with FACS. You do not need to be in FACS to be a part of FCCLA.  All middle school students can participate. FCCLA focuses on STAR Events, Students Taking Action with Recognition. STAR Events are projects that students complete in teams or individually. These projects can be about a wide range of FACS related topics, including; starting your own business, cooking demonstrations, fashion design, child care, healthy habits etc. Students present at regional level and then may advance to the state and national level competition. STAR events are the main part of FCCLA, but not required. Students may also use the Tuesday meeting time to experiment in the kitchens or learn how to use the sewing machines.

Tinker Club is for tech-savvy, independent learners who enjoy figuring out how things work and creating their own 3D contraptions with little direction from adults. Work individually or as a group to “make something that does something” with Sphero, Ozobot, Bloxels, Little Bits, Snap circuits, Wonder Workshop, Legos and more! This club in the J110 lab. Students may bring a nut-free snack if desired.

Mathcounts is a middle school math competition for 7th and 8th graders, that challenges students on their ability to solve problems from many different fields of mathematics (number sense, algebra, geometry, number theory, statistics, probability, and every once-in-awhile Trigonometry). The WMS Mathcounts practices start in October (Changed to start Sept. 9) and go through December (changed to go through January 13), and are open to all math enthusiasts. The group of students will represent the school in Jr. Math League competitions.

Show Choir at Waconia Middle School is an after school activity that involves students singing and dancing at various musical events. We have over 110 7th and 8th grade students involved in our  middle school show choirs every year. The two middle school show choirs are Pulse (7th Grade Girls) and Shockwave (7th-8th Grade Boys and 8th Grade Girls), also includes a show band (guitar, percussion, and piano) that accompanies the group. No prior experience is needed to join, but we are looking for students that show great effort and attitude in and out of the classroom.
