Classroom to Boardroom Strategic Planning Process
It’s been 10 years since Waconia Public Schools took a good, hard look at our plan for the future, and a lot has changed in those 10 years. More families are moving to Waconia because of our strong communities and our great schools. With a steadily growing student population in an ever-changing world, it’s important that our schools deliver the best education possible to meet our families’ and our communities’ high expectations. That is why we are in the process this spring of developing a strategic plan that will guide our work and set priorities for the next several years.
Since the 1980s, Waconia has changed from a one-stoplight town that required a long-distance call to the Twin Cities, to a destination community that is growing and thriving. Since the 1980s, how we educate students has also changed. New technology, new research about how children learn, and new methods of teaching are all changing what happens in our classrooms on a daily basis. We know we are fortunate to live in a community that embraces change and values education. Now, we want to ready our schools and our staff for the changes yet to come.
This website provides updates and insights into our classroom-to-boardroom strategic planning process. Unlike many school district strategic plans, our plan is being developed from the classroom level up — with teams of teachers, principals and parents. Through this process, we will have a better sense of the needs, strengths and ideas from the people closest to our students on a daily basis. Check out reports posted below about the strategic planning process to date and watch for your chance to provide input along the way.
